The introducing of Hakkenshi/The Eight Dog Warriors in Nanso Satomi Hakkenden -Inuyama Dosetsu’s Edition-

Some books said Nanso Satomi Hakkenden is similar to Super Sentai/Power Rangers in present era.

I think so a bit, but it may be a different.

Third, I'll introduce Inuyama Dosetsu, the warrior of Chuu(忠)/loyalty.

・Inuyama Dosetsu's character

He has an orb written with the word "Chuu(忠)" (loyalty)

He has a peony birthmark on his left shoulder.

His father was Inuyama Dosaku and a distinguished family of elder retainers .

He was born with a large mass on his left shoulder contained the orb of loyalty

And in both the original story and the TV drama, this mass is cut and the bead comes flying out, leaving a peony-shaped birthmark afterwards.

When he was a child, he suffered tragedy when he was nearly poisoned to death by the mother of Hamaji.

But afterward, this time he studied and mastered Katon No Jutsu/Fire Style.

However, his father was later killed by Ougigayatsu Sadamasa, the Kantou Kanrei,

And this time, on he persistently pursued Sadamasa as his father's murderer.

He's a "Fire Dog Warrior" who is skilled in Katon No Jutsu/Fire Style.

When he first appeared, he pretended as a mountain ascetic, tricking people to fund his revenge, by using Katon No Jutsu/Fire Style.

In the original work, he abandons it in the middle-time.through, seeing it as an "evil technique" .

But in fanfictions, he often doesn't abandon it, and in the TBS special drama and OVA versions, he often uses flaming long-range attacks and gunpowder balls, in addition to katana, his main weapon.

He is portrayed as the most trouble-making of the dog warriors.

He's very short-tempered, thoughtless and belligerent because he prioritizes revenge against Sadamasa.

He is often scolded by Inuzuka Shino, the "Water Dog Warrior."

(According to Uchida Roan, who was the first to translate Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" into Japanese,

"That makes him the most human of the Eight Dog Warriors, who are almost too intellect,"

and

"He, and Shino, Hakkenden's protagonist, are responsible for the most interesting parts of Hakkenden.")

・In the Kadokawa film "Satomi Hakkenden/Legend Of Eight Samurai"  in 1983 (Actor: Chiba Shinichi.)

He's the oldest of Hakkenshi and their leader. He has the appearance of a mountain ascetic like the original work.

Unlike in the original work, he's  short-tempered or thoughtless.

But he is ill and has only one month left to live, so he seem to be impatient in defeating the enemy.

He doesn't use Katon No Jutsu, but when he is fatally wounded in the final battle, he uses his "Trump Card."

・In the TBS New Year's Special Drama "Satomi Hakkenden" in 2006 (Actor: Ozawa Yukiyoshi)

"He speaks his ambitions easily."

Even after knowing of Hakkenshi's mission, his priority remains revenge.

He doesn't have much contact with Shino (Takizawa Hideaki).

Amidst all of this, his tragic love with his childhood friend Funamushi (Tomosaka Rie) is also depicted.

Unlike the original work, he doesn't abandoned Katon No Jutsu/Fire Style, and he often uses long-distance attacks in which he covers his fists with flames and unleashes them on large enemy forces far away.

Learning of the existence of Inusaka Keno, who is also burning with the desire for revenge, and that Sadamasa is targeting Satomi, makes him joins Kenshi.

In the OVA "The Hakkenden" (Character Voice::Yamadera Kouichi. Recently, he's a narration like "Kamen Rider Zero-One", "Tameshite Gatten" and so on.  I was surprised to see him appear in "Okaeri Mone".)

"He's a cool and a lone wolf, but emotionally unstable"

He accidentally killed his sister Hamaji due to an enemy's illusion, and this has continued to have an impact on him.

It's strongly dipicted of his fear of Hamaji's ghost, which is being manipulated by the enemy.

After learning of Hakkenshi's mission, but he initially prioritizes avenging Ougigayatsu Sadamasa.

However, after losing his retainers one by one as a result.

And after the enemy kidnapped Hamajihime, the princess of Satomi and a spitting image of Hamaji, he decides to go to Satomi, and in the final battle, he and Shino infiltrate the enemy camp alone.

In addition to katana, his main weapon, he frequently uses gunpowder balls using for Katon No Jutsu/Fire Style, and it's dipicted like he has greater fighting power than Shino.

By the way, his design has changed several times, with blonde hair like a broom in episode 1, he's wearing a bandana from episode 3 to episode 7, and a slicked-back hairstyle from episode 10, so it may be confusing until you get used to it.

I introduced both “Harem Protagonists as Hakkenshi” and “Garupan Captain Group as Hakkenshi”.

Needless to say,

"The Harem Protagonist as Inuyama Dosetsu ": Ichijou Raku (Nisekoi)

"The Garupan Captain Group as Inuyama Dosetsu ": Nishi Kinuyo (Chihatan Academy)

Is it a bit of a stretch to compare Raku, who was born into a yakuza family, with Dosetsu, who was born into a distinguished family of elder retainers?

If Dosetsu is twisted personality like in the OVA version (even in the original, even after learning of Kenshi's mission, he still prioritized revenge, which also applies to Keno), does Raku's personality also seem to be somewhat twisted, so does this apply?

Kinuyo was casted because of their commonality below:

"a short-tempered, impatient troublemaker"

and

"born into a distinguished family of elder retainers (apparently Kinuyo is a rich girl)."

Some people think that Keno and Dosetsu don't get along.

But it would be interesting if the real Yuuki Rito and Ichijou Raku, and Darjeeling and Nishi Kinuyo also don't get along.
