The introducing of Hakkenshi/The Eight Dog Warriors in Nanso Satomi Hakkenden -Inumura Daikaku’s Edition-
Seventh, I decided to introduce Inumura Daikaku.
・Inumura Daikaku's character
He has an orb engraved with the word "礼(Rei/Countesy).
He has a peony-shaped birthmark on his
buttocks→his left chest (left chest in the TBS drama version, buttocks in the
OVA version).
He was born as the son of Akaiwa Ikkaku, a
man of great martial arts. But his father was killed and eaten by a monster
cat.
And he grew up being abused by the monster
cat that had transformed into the fake Ikkaku.
He was taken in by his uncle, took Inumura,
last name, and married his uncle's daughter, Hinaginu.
but after she accidentally swallowed an 礼's orb and her stomach swelled, he was accused of adultery
He initially admitted to the adultery and
divorced her.
But then met Inukai Genpachi who receive
willing of Ikkaku's ghost and although Hinaginu was sacrificed, he defeated the
monster cat and joined the group of Hakkenshi.
A scholarly type.
While Inusaka Keno is Hakkenshi of Wisdom
and Strategy, Daikaku is well versed in Japanese and Chinese books.
In final battle, he disguised as a fortune
teller at Keno's request to deceive the enemy general.
Although he has a quiet personality, he is
often portrayed as being rigid, and it
was the cause of Hinaginu's death.
・In the Kadokawa film "Satomi
Hakkenden/Legend Of Eight Samurai"
in 1983 (Acter: Terada Minoru. His orb engraved characteristics "義(Gi/Justice)" by some reasons.)
He appears as a pair with Inuyama Dosetsu
(Chiba Shinichi), and told Shizuhime (Yakushimaru Hiroko), the heroine, about
their mission and asking her to defeat evil.
As a scholar, he is knowledgeable about a
variety of things.
And he is the only one of the eight who is
adept at using explosives and guns.
When he is fatally wounded during the final
battle, he wraps himself in explosives and commits suicide.
・In the TBS New Year's Special Drama
"Satomi Hakkenden" in 2006 (Acter: Katsuragi Ryo)
"He is a scholarly man who is
passionate about research. He loves to read books and is knowledgeable about
even pharmacology."
At first, he appears as a vassal of
Ashikaga Shigeuji (Kyomoto Masaki) along with his father Ikkaku (Jinnai
Takanori) for some reason, and crosses katanas with Inuzuka Shino (Takizawa
Hideaki).
After being expelled along with his father
due to slanderous accusations by the enemy, he continues to admire his father,
believing his father to be alive, even though Ikkaku was killed and eaten by a
monster cat.
In addition to Jingi-hachigyo, he is also
well versed in pharmacology, and he treats Shino who is injured in a fight with
a monster cat.
He is set to be "skilled in martial
arts, including naginata," but perhaps for the sake of the actor, he
doesn't use a naginata until the end and fights with only a katana.
In addition, the Hinaginu does not appear,
and 礼's orb comes out of Ikkaku's skull, which Ikkaku
entrusted to Genpachi.
・In the OVA "The Hakkenden"
(Character Voice: Ootsuka Akio, who also voiced Donald Curtis in "Porco
Rosso" and Anavel Gato in "Gundam 0083")
He is quiet and has few scenes and lines,
but he is seen to be the one who thinks the most deeply out of the eight.
And in the CD drama, he also shows his
knowledgeable side.
Compared to the original work, his feelings
for Hinaginu are more single-minded and pure.
In Episode 1, his weapon is a shakuhachi,
which he uses to beat his enemies to death, but it is later changed to a
specially shaped nagamaki.
I introduced both “Harem Protagonist as
Hakkenshi” and “Garupan Captain Group as Hakkenshi”.
Needless to say,
"The Harem Protagonist as Inumura
Daikaku ": Yuiga Nariyuki(We Never Learn)
"The Garupan Captain Group as Inumura
Daikaku ": Mika (Continuation High School)
When it comes to scholarly types, I thought
a studious character would be fittable, and Nariyuki was the obvious choice for
the harem protagonist.
(And both Daikaku and Nariyuki have the
same in terms of being intellectuals.)
About Mika...she speaks and acts
philosophically a lot, so it's hard to tell what she's thinking.
But if we're going to emphasize the quiet
nature of Daikaku's character, I'd say she's the perfect fit as Daikaku.
