The introducing of Hakkenshi/The Eight Dog Warriors in Nanso Satomi Hakkenden -Inuta Kobungo’s Edition-
I found an interesting video in Youtube, about Nansou Satomi Hakkenden/Eight Dogs Chlonicle.
It introduces Hakkenden and Hakkenshi successfully, compared to Sailor Moon, Morning Musume and so on.
Fifth, I decided to introduce Inuta Kobungo.
・Inuta Kobungo's character
He has an orb engraved with the character "悌(Tei/Brotherfood)."
He has a peony-shaped birthmark on his buttocks near his crotch (his right thigh in the TBS drama version).
He is the uncle of Inue Shinbei, Hakkenshi of "仁(Jin/Sympathy)."
He was born into the family of Konaya, an inn in Gyotoku.
He originally had no last name, but after killing Inuta, the evil people, so, he had been called "Kobungo the Inuta Killer" and after "Inuta Kobungo."
He was a foster brother of Inukai Genpachi.
After the Battle of Horyukaku, he took care of the injured Genpachi and Inuzuka Shino.
And after, he learned that he was Hakkenshi, but later lost his little sister and her husband who tried to protect them.
He then swore to be foster brothers with Genpachi and Shino, closed his inn, and set out on a journey as Hakkenshi, but...
He's a massive man, standing 5'9" (about 180cm) height and a champion of amateur sumo.
He's strong but lacking in knowledge and wisdom, which is rare among Hakkenshi, many of whom are skilled in both the literary and martial arts.
His personality is generally "kind and strong" and "simple-minded in love".
And in the original work he was confessed to by Inusaka Keno while cross-dressed, and tentatively, he fell in love with him.
・In the Kadokawa film "Satomi Hakkenden/Legend Of Eight Samurai" in 1983 (Actor: Kariya Shunsuke.)
He appeared as a pair with Inukawa Sosuke (child actor Fukuhara Takuya).
He's a legendary tribe that lives in a cave.
Though he has great strength, but he doesn't looks a gentle nature, and are portrayed as silent and intimidating.
His weapon is a staff.
During the final battle, he's likely to be crushed by a rock in the enemy's base...
・In the TBS New Year's Special Drama "Satomi Hakkenden" in 2006 (Actor: Shouei)
"He is kind-hearted and easily moved to tears. He is good at fighting, but innocent and easily deceived."
He had been dominated by his strong-willed younger sister (Kurokawa Tomoka. Unlike the original, she doesn't have a tragic fate).
And he was often told things like "We don't get any customers because of my big brother" and "Your only good point is your brute strength."
However, when she found out that he is Hakkenshi in the Satomi clan, they reconcile finally.
Unlike the original, Kobungo was the one-sidedly in love with Keno, but when he found out that Keno is a man, he says "I don't trust beautiful women anymore,"
So, his personality is easy to understand, making him the most comical of Hakkenshi.
His action is very powerful, and uses a pair of clubs in the final battle.
In the OVA "The Hakkenden" (Character Voice::Genda Tesshou. Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice-over is famous, isn't it?)
"A kind and strong man. He's scary when he's angry. And when he drinks, he's a different person."
Because the story follows the original, his personality is closest to the original.
But an additional setting was added:
"He was once a rough man who was called a 'Kenka-Inu/The Fighting Dog,' his father was involved in his fight and died. Since then, he sealed away his sword and became a completely different person, becoming quieter."
(The "悌(Tei/Brotherfood") jewel was released when the sake bottle he used at the time broke.)
His eyes are usually narrow.
But when he gets really angry, his eyes open and he is unstoppable.
His weapon was a naginata in the early setting and in Episode 1, but was later changed to a katana.
I introduced both “Harem Protagonist as Hakkenshi” and “Garupan Captain Group as Hakkenshi”.
Needless to say,
"The Harem Protagonist as Inuta Kobungo ": Fuyuzora Kogarashi (Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs)
"The Garupan Captain Group as Inuta Kobungo ": Kay (Saunders University High School)
If you're looking to embody the "kind-hearted and strong" theme, then Kogarashi is definitely suitablest.
He'd be able to make full use of his characteristics as a physical psychic.
Kay is essentially the leftover.
She's only briefly described as having great strength in Mr. Nijou Maruko's fan fiction, and Nishizumi Maho is taller than him.
But she doesn't seem to have much wisdom, as she believes in being fair and honorable.
